I am honored to have created two websites for Kalli Rose Halvorson, one in 1997 and one in 2012 to celebrate her work posthumously. I remember when Kalli created the Akasha Ma collage http://www.herstar.net/collected-works/akashama72dpi/ . We were living together in a flat in Rockridge at that time. I had already created the Herstar logo for her and was surprised she felt she needed a new graphic to depict her life’s work. She explained every element of the collage to me and this conversation served as inspiration for the creation of the new Herstar.net home page and new WordPress Theme. I hope you will share your experiences with this site, with Kalli herself, and with her work. Your comments are welcomed!
Thank you so much for this. I have been brought to tears seeing her beautiful face again. She was one of my favorite people and she was truly unique. Brilliant for sure. A funny thing is that I felt super cool because Kalli liked me. Like hanging out with the popular kids at school because she was such a true visionary and a genius.
Anyway, thank you for this. I look forward to reading everything on this site. Namaste! Elisabeth Sikie
Dear sisters and brothers and other loved ones:
Thank you so much for this beautiful and precious collection of thoughts, writings, pictures and cosmic images celebrating all that Kalli incarnated and created while she was with us. It is everything I’d hoped it would be, and more, stirring up memories and images and helping me recall her thoughts, her values and her inimitable gift for fusing creative ideas with sacred traditions in an effort to find new paths and realities of deep meaning for us all, and particularly for women. Surely she is smiling from some corner(s) of the universe!
I’m really enjoying the design and layout of your site. It’s a very easy on the eyes which makes it much more enjoyable for me to come here and visit more often. Did you hire out a developer to create your theme? Great work!
Hi Getting Rid,
Thanks for your kind words. Kalli Rose’s sister Kristi Halvorson and Kalli’s close friend of 30+ years Roxanne Ansolabehere had been working on a book of Kalli Rose’s work when they determined the best route would be a website. They immediately thought of me, Kalli’s original logo and website designer and former roommate from the Rockridge days. The look of the site is inspired by the Kali Ma collage Kalli Rose created in 2002 while we were living together. I witnessed the creation of the collage and spoke about the inspiration for it at length with Kalli at the time. I was honored to be selected to create this site and felt that Kalli was guiding us from above. You can learn more about my design and website services at http://www.magical-marketing.com
Hello. This post was extremely interesting, especially since I was investigating for thoughts on this issue last couple of days.
how very lovely that your have made this rich tribute to Kalli and her work.
i wrote a poem in honor of Kalli at her death which appears in my new book Ardor: Poems of Life (Pilgrims Press, Vanasi, India, 2012). i had Kalli’s ashes blessed in India by Her Holiness Mata Amritanandamayi, then cast them into our beautiful northern California waters at Dillon Beach and these words came…
Kalli’s Ashes
These are the dissolved bones
Of your skull, your spine,
Your long arms and legs,
Friendly hands and feet—
I offer them to the Ocean
And She takes them
As She takes everything—
Gladly and without doubt.
This is your gift to the Mother,
Your very body, your own
Identity, your short life
That passed through the fire
again and again
Hail to the Great Shakti!
